I’m so excited about your upcoming senior session!
This guide contains a lot of information regarding outfit selection, preparing for your session and what you can expect for our time together.
Please read it thoroughly, as most frequently asked questions are
answered right here in this guide!
Approximately a week before your session, I ask that you send phone pictures of your outfits via text or email. I will develop a plan for our time together, matching outfits to locations where I think they will photograph well!
Your session will begin at a predetermined location which I will communicate to you. Please try your absolute best to arrive on time! As a natural light photographer, your senior session is scheduled around the time the sun sets. Once the sun is set, we can no longer shoot.
Long, fitted pants and closed-toed shoes are the most sophisticated and masculine looks for guys. They draw attention away from your legs and feet and place it where you want it: on your handsome face! So, for your session, it’s best to leave the shorts and sandals at home, as well as any pants that are loose or baggy. Fitted dress pants, chinos and jeans work best on camera. I also recommend staying away from graphics and logos - unless it is something team or school related.
The next time you walk by a store like
J. Crew, you'll notice the male mannequins are always wearing several layers at once. Layers on men look great on camera, so even when it's hot outside, trust me when I say it’s worth an hour of discomfort for great photos! Adding another layer will bring extra dimension and visual interest to your photos. In addition to a blazer or jacket, a v-neck sweater with a pop of color or pattern from a long-sleeved collared shirt is a great look. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with layers!
Have a fresh shave. A five o’clock shadow can’t be retouched!
Avoid sunburn, tan lines, and spray tans
Consider using a moisturizer a few days before your session to prevent any dry or chapped skin
I recommend scheduling a haircut at least one week before your session. You want to avoid the awkward “just cut” look, but still maintain the clean, crisp look of a fresher haircut
Make sure your fingernails are trim and clean - you WILL see them in photos!
Avoid chapped lips by using a little chapstick - and bring it with you!
